Students Adore Moodle - Moodlerooms Recognized for Helping to Improve Education

Hello fellow Moodlers,

As a Moodleroom Certified Trainer I was extremely happy with the article "Students Adore Moodle" that Phil Shapiro wrote on PC World about Moodlerooms and I would like to share it with you.

The co-founder of Moodlerooms, Sheila Gatling, and the president of Moodlerooms, Tom Murdock, were featured in an article on PC World's Web site. In the article, the writer, Phil Shapiro, asserts that Moodle and Moodlerooms are changing the way people learn.

Moodle Free E-Book

For an open source software we need a free e-book!

Using Moodle - Teaching with the Popular Open Source Course Management System by Jason Cole and Helen Foster is published by O'Reilly as part of the Community Press series.

The first edition of the book, written by Jason Cole and released in July 2005, is based on Moodle 1.4. The second edition, released in November 2007, has been updated to cover all the features in Moodle 1.8, such as the new roles and permissions system, blogs, messaging and the database module.

Book download

The second edition of Using Moodle is now available for download as a zipped PDF file:

Thanks to members of the worldwide Moodle user community for their discussion and documentation contributions, many of which have been included in the book.

Distance Music Course with the help of Moodle

Music is probably the last subject one would expected to encounter in a distance education course. However, some progressive music teachers have introduced distance music education courses in all levels of education.

The purpose of my study is to research, design, develop, and evaluate the conversion of Music Technology II, a face-to-face music course, that College of Musical Arts at Bowling Green State University, offers to undergraduate and graduate students into an online format.

Open source software such as Jing, YouTube, Flash player, and Slideshare were used. To achieve the best possible interactivity and effectiveness in the Music Technology II, web-based course, Moodle Learning Management System was used. In addition, Robert Gagne’s nine events of instruction, and John Dewey’s education progressivism were applied to the web-based course.

At last, the analysis revealed that distance music courses are effective when they have been carefully planned and are student-centered. The proposed format of the Music Technology II course is the hybrid format.

Moodlerooms!

In this post I have decided to write from where I have gained the knowledge that I have about Moodle. As you can understand you gain experience through the process of creating a course.

But how do you gain knowledge?

My previous experience showed me that the best way is to attend in an online training program especially designed for Moodle and Moodlers. So I did a research, as I always do and I found Moodlerooms.

Moodlerooms provides wrap-around technical support services for the hugely popular, free Moodle open source software. As an official Moodle Partner , Moodlerooms provides the support, hosting, customization, instruction, training and other services you need to tap Moodle’s full potential – whether for a single class, a school or a 50,000 student university.

Furthermore, Moodlerooms offers online and onsite training for Moodle instructors.
A blend of instruction will give your instructors the skills and deliverables to run their own Moodle courses.

Lets see the 3 online courses that Moodlerooms offers:
  1. Moodle 100 for Individuals: Introduction to Moodle,
  2. Moodle 101 for Individuals: Course Creating, and
  3. Moodle 200 for Individuals: Site Administration

Personally, I have attended in Moodle 100 and 101. The instructors are very friendly and helpful. They can answer at any question related to Moodle. Also, they seem not to care about $$$ but about how they will make the educational process interactive and fun! I can definitely say that the cost is low if you consider how many things you can learn. I encourage you to attend in these online courses!

Based on the knowledge that I have gain from Moodle 100 and 101, I decided to convert a face-to-face music course into an online format, which is my major project for the Master of Education in Career and Technology Education. My committee is very satisfied with what I have done so far and I am proud with what I have achieved!
